CNC Machining In Polystyrene – What Is PS Plastic?

Polystyrene (PS for short) is a thermoplastic resin produced by free radical polymerization of styrene monomer. It is one of the "five major general plastics" most commonly used in my country and the world. It is second only to polyethylene and The fourth largest variety of polypropylene and polyvinyl chloride. Polystyrene is hard, transparent, rigid, electrically insulating, has low moisture absorption and has excellent processing properties. It can be used to make hard plastic products such as household appliances, as well as foam plastic products and films. It has a wide range of uses.

Common Types Of Polystyrene Plastic

GPPS:It is the abbreviation of General Purpose Polystyrene (General Purpose Polystyrene). It is a thermoplastic that is commonly used in processes such as injection molding, extrusion molding and film blowing. GPPS has good transparency, stiffness and chemical resistance, and is often used to make transparent containers, tableware, toys, CDs and other products.

HIPS:It is the abbreviation of High Impact Polystyrene, a plastic material with excellent impact resistance. It is commonly used in the manufacture of products such as electrical casings, household products, toys and packaging materials. HIPS material has good processing performance and surface smoothness, as well as high rigidity and wear resistance.

EPS:It is a kind of foam plastic, whose full name is polystyrene (Expanded Polystyrene). It is lightweight, insulating, shock-absorbing, and waterproof, and is often used in packaging, construction, and industrial products. EPS materials usually exist in expanded white granular form and can be processed into products of various shapes and uses through molding, cutting, etc.

Benefits Of PS Plastic

Low cost: PS has always been one of the plastics with the lowest production costs and is widely used in disposable products

High transparency: PS is a non-crystalline (amorphous) material, so it has high light transmittance.

Dyeable: PS has high transmittance and is easy to dye.

High hardness and high surface gloss: The molecular chain structure of PS is simple, but because of the benzene ring, the hardness is higher than that of PP.

Food contact grade: PS is a food contact grade plastic
